This role is based in our Group Data Services & Reporting (DS&R) function.

As an Associate Data Engineer you will be responsible for designing and building new data pipelines; modelling & transforming data ready for business insight and extending & transforming our data platform & data service capabilities. The DS&R Data Analyst team will then use your modelled datasets to deliver reporting and insight to Radius.

As well as your technical expertise, you will work with stakeholders to map requirements, understand business processes and manage small projects to support your data pipeline delivery.

In-person collaboration is very important to us. You will need to be able to work from our Radius Campus head office in Crewe, Cheshire for a minimum 3 days per week.

The onsite facilities are excellent, including gym, changing rooms, café, barista bar, and multiple breakout areas.

Objectives

  • Grow and extend our data platform & data service capabilities guided by our Group Data Strategy, including AI & M/L data foundations and architecture.
  • Support and daily monitoring to maintain the existing data platforms and services.
  • Collaborate with your DS&R colleagues to improve your skills, team processes and team wellbeing. You will be fully supported to progress your career as a Data Engineer.

Your responsibilities day to day will be…

  • Model and transform data within the AWS Data Warehouse / Databricks / Other tooling, applying business definitions where needed to prepare datasets ready for fast and accurate business consumption.
  • Provide broader data service & integration solutions for the Group.
  • Collaborate within the DS&R team as well as outside the team; work directly with stakeholders gathering and steering requirements; manage your work & projects and document all solutions.
  • Support the Data Service Desk on a team rota basis during business hours to provide quick dev solutions and advice to business teams (4-8h per week).

What do we expect of you?

The role will not be suitable for entry-level or graduate candidates. We'll be looking for you to bring 1-2 years’ experience as a Data Engineer working in a cloud-based data landscape.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • Our ETL processes are code based, so expertise in Python and SQL is essential.
  • Analytical and critical in your thinking; rigorous in the quality and accuracy of your work and curious to understand the business that sits in front of the data we manage and transform.
  • Comfortable working with stakeholders who may have partially defined requirements and differing opinions and be ready to help guide and shape teams towards the best solution
  • An appreciation that that a data solution is only successful if it is adopted and delivers value.
