Role Title: AWS Senior Data Engineer

EXL is seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong AWS expertise to design, build, and optimise scalable data platforms. This role is critical to shaping modern data architecture, enabling advanced analytics, and driving data-led decision-making across the organisation.
You will work on complex, enterprise-scale data solutions, building robust pipelines and platforms while ensuring strong data management practices across the data lifecycle, including data quality, governance, and integrity. The role requires a combination of hands-on engineering capability, architectural thinking, and the ability to work closely with stakeholders across data, analytics, and business teams.
Experience within the Insurance domain is preferred, particularly working with large, complex datasets and industry-specific data models.

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable data pipelines using AWS services
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes for large-scale data ingestion and transformation
- Work across structured and unstructured datasets, ensuring data quality, consistency, and integrity
- Design and implement data lakes and data warehouse solutions on AWS
- Build and maintain data marts using dimensional modelling (star and snowflake schemas)
- Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into data solutions
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise data pipelines for performance and cost efficiency
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines and support DevOps practices using Azure DevOps
- Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards
- Produce clear documentation of data architecture, pipelines, and standards
- 10+ years’ experience in Data Engineering or related roles, with at least 5+ years working extensively in AWS
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS services including:
S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, IAM, CloudWatch, VPC
- Proven experience designing and implementing data lake and data warehouse architectures
- Strong expertise in SQL, Python, and Spark for data processing and transformation
- Solid experience building data marts and applying dimensional modelling techniques
- Experience implementing IaC using Terraform
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tooling, particularly Azure DevOps
- Experience with version control systems such as Git
- Strong problem-solving capability with attention to detail
- AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Data Engineer, or DevOps Engineer
- Experience working in a consulting or client-facing environment
- Exposure to large-scale, enterprise data platforms
