Build scalable data platforms that power better outcomes for millions of members.
Work with modern cloud technologies in a collaborative, forward‑thinking engineering team.
Flexible hybrid working to support your wellbeing and work–life balance.

At AustralianSuper, we truly care about our colleagues. We know work and life are intertwined. That's why we support the diverse needs of everyone and have policies that enable us all to thrive and be truly flexible. We ensure diversity is celebrated for the opportunity it provides us all to learn and grow and deliver better outcomes for members. We are dedicated to building a high-performance environment underpinned by a strong risk culture, ensuring we deliver the best outcomes for our members.

About Us

At AustralianSuper, our purpose is simple: to help members achieve their best possible retirement outcomes. With over £200bn in assets under management, we are one of the world’s largest and fastest‑growing pension funds.

Our Technology Services group plays a critical role in enabling this mission — delivering secure, scalable, and high‑quality technology solutions that support the Fund’s growth both locally and internationally. Structured around a Plan / Build / Run model, the team works closely with business stakeholders to deliver seamless, member‑centric outcomes.

We’re now looking for a Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering capability, contributing to the design, build, and optimisation of the Fund’s enterprise data platforms.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to work at scale within a complex enterprise data environment, helping to build robust, high‑quality data solutions that underpin critical decision‑making across the organisation.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, business stakeholders, and delivery teams, contributing across the full data lifecycle — from ingestion and transformation through to optimisation and consumption.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Assist in the delivery of high‑quality data solutions as part of the Data Engineering team.
  • Design, build, monitor, and optimise batch and streaming ETL pipelines at enterprise scale.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data performance issues, driving continuous optimisation.
  • Support downstream data consumers and business applications from a data‑consumption perspective.
  • Contribute to code reviews, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing within the engineering community.
  • Engage with project teams, business stakeholders, and vendors to foster strong, collaborative partnerships.
  • Participate in the uplift of the broader Engineering Practice, supporting continuous improvement and capability development.
  • Support leadership decision‑making relating to the Enterprise Data Platform.
  • Ensure strong governance, risk management, and compliance practices are embedded in data processes and solutions.

What You’ll Bring

You’re a technically strong and curious data engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, learning new technologies, and contributing to a purpose‑driven organisation.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Experience working in complex enterprise data environments.
  • Strong engineering capability in Python, Spark, and SQL.
  • Experience designing and building advanced data pipelines and data warehouses at scale.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines for data and analytics (Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Hands‑on experience with public cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, or equivalent (AWS / GCP).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset and a passion for engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience with AI / ML model training (supervised or unsupervised learning).
  • Database administration experience, including Microsoft SQL technologies.
  • Financial services or highly regulated industry experience.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Why Join Us?

At AustralianSuper, we’re committed to creating an inclusive, flexible, and high‑performing workplace where everyone can thrive.

You’ll benefit from:

  • A flexible hybrid working model designed to support wellbeing and balance.
  • Opportunities to work with modern data platforms and cutting‑edge technologies.
  • Ongoing professional development within a global, purpose‑driven organisation.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the long‑term financial futures of millions of members.

We warmly encourage applications from women and underrepresented groups — even if you don’t meet every requirement.
