You’ll be accountable for ensuring our data platforms are resilient, secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Key responsibilities include:
Database Ownership & Architecture
  • Lead the design, construction, and optimisation of SQL Server databases that support core business applications and reporting.
  • Own the database schema, data models, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
  • Manage data ingestion pipelines and integrations, ensuring reliable, accurate, and high-quality data flow into the database.
  • Oversee database governance, documentation, security standards, and access controls.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the primary technical owner for the database (s) within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Translate business and project requirements into scalable database solutions.
  • Troubleshoot issues and proactively improve performance, reliability, and usability.
  • Work closely with solution architects and technical development teams
Desirable Geospatial & Domain Data
  • Manage and optimise spatial datasets within PostGIS or SQL Server spatial components.
  • Work with GIS teams to ensure high quality geospatial data feeds into applications and dashboards.

Join WSP at a time of growth and transformation, where you will be part of exciting developments and innovations in GIS on landmark projects across diverse sectors such as land management, property and planning, energy and transportation.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
Strong technical skills in SQL Server databases, scripting (preferably Python or R), SQL, data management, and strong accountability behaviours along with a proactive, resilient mindset and exceptional problem-solving abilities. You will have a customer focused mindset to deliver exceptional outcomes for our clients.

  • Experience in data engineering with demonstrable database ownership or administration responsibilities.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server: schema design, indexing, optimisation, monitoring, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating data from multiple systems.
  • Hands-on experience with SSRS, SSMS, Python, R, and Power BI.
  • Solid understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and secure access management.
  • Experience with spatial databases (PostGIS or SQL Server spatial) and GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS).
  • Ability to document systems clearly and communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
