About the Role:Â Â Â Â
LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions is seeking a Principal Data Scientist specialising in Agentic Systems, with deep expertise in efficient context engineering, fine-tuning large language models (LLMs), and multi-agent workflows. This hands-on role focuses on pushing the boundaries of how intelligent systems plan, reason, and act in real-world intellectual property (IP) applications.
As part of our dynamic Data Science and AI Engineering community, you’ll have the opportunity to rotate across diverse problem domains, gaining broad expertise while delivering impact. You’ll partner closely with product managers and commercial teams to understand the workflows of IP professionals, and collaborate with engineers to prototype, evaluate, and optimise intelligent agents that drive measurable customer value.

Key Responsibilities:
Designing and improving agentic systems that break down complex tasks into actionable steps.
Developing innovative context engineering strategies (e.g., retrieval-augmented generation, dynamic context construction, memory optimisation).
Select, benchmark, and host LLMs on Amazon SageMaker or EKS, comparing and optimising models to ensure agentic systems are fast, accurate, and cost-effective.
Select, fine-tune, and adapt LLMs to meet specific objectives.
Enhancing evaluation frameworks to measure performance, efficiency, and success.
Prioritising and managing improvements to core intelligence using methods like reinforcement learning and self-learning agents.
Collaborating with engineering and product teams to deliver scalable solutions.
Supporting and mentoring team members, fostering a culture of inclusion, learning, and innovation.
Requirements:
Advanced degree (PhD, Master’s, or equivalent experience) in AI, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
Strong experience in applied AI or LLMs in a commercial or research setting.
Strong knowledge of context engineering, LLM fine-tuning, and evaluation of non-deterministic systems.
Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
